Massage Treats Whole Body & Mind
The body is like a symphony. All parts must be in complete harmony with each other in order for a masterpiece to occur. It is no wonder that we only achieve ideal health when our body, mind, and spirit find perfect peace and harmony with one another. Massage therapy has risen above the term "alternative therapy." Current day, it's a vital part of the health care practices of many people living in today's stress-heavy world.
W
hat is Massage Therapy?
Massage (derived from the French massage "friction of kneading," possibly from Arabic massa "to touch, feel, handle" or from Latin massa "mass, dough") is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues and joints of the body with physical, functional, i.e. mechanical, medical/therapeutic, and in some cases emotional purposes and goals. The soft tissues include muscle, skin, tendons and associated fascia, ligaments and joint capsules. Massage has many diverse physiological effects, which are primarily due to the therapist's hands moving over the body. The different movements can physically stretch muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, encourage the circulation through the tissue, inhibit muscular spasms and be either sedating or stimulating to the nervous system. Considered both an art and a science, massage therapy is utilized for simple relaxation as well as for therapeutic treatment for many conditions.
Benefits of Massage Therapy

Theories behind what massage might do include blocking pain and nociception signals to the brain (gate control theory), activating the parasympathetic nervous system, stimulating the release of endorphins and serotonin, preventing fibrosis or scar tissue, increasing the flow of lymph, and improving sleep.

Not a Chiropractic Patient?
No Problem! Anyone is welcome to enjoy a massage at Mason Chiropractic Health & Wellness. Although chiropractic care and massage therapy greatly compliment each other, it is not a requirement to be a chiropractic patient of Dr. Mason's to benefit from massage therapy at our office. However, people benefit greatly when using both chiropractic care and massage therapy together.
Massage Therapy FAQ:
What Should I Expect During My First Massage Therapy Visit?
The therapist will begin by gathering health related information and asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, and if there are any conditions needing to be addressed.
Where Will My Massage Session take Place?
Your massage will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax.
What Do I Wear During A Massage?
For a full body massage, most people disrobe completely. However, you may choose to wear underpants. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.
What Should I Do During A Massage?
Relax and let the therapist do the work. Give the therapist feedback if you are uncomfortable with anything during the sessions (too cold, too warm, would prefer more or less pressure, etc.).
How Long Does A Massage Last?
We offer full 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions. One hour sessions seem to be the most popular.
What Can I Expect Afterwards?
Some people feel very relaxed after a massage session, while others feel energized. If deeper tissue work was performed, you may experience soreness for a day or two following the massage session. Remember to drink plenty of water.
